Sparta was a dominant ancient Greek city with
military power and owed this military efficiency to its social structure
in the region.
Sparta the city state had greatest military power of Greece and
played catalytic role in history of Peloponnese. The dominant power in
Greece, Sparta’s role was over by the year 362 B.C., The Spartan myth
continues to fascinate Western culture.
The majority of inhabitants of Sparta were slaves who, every autumn
during the Crypteia, could be killed by a Spartan citizen without fear
of blood or guilt. Even though the later Spartans did not produce
philosophy art or any written work left us, its people were admired for
their valor and for keeping alive the Greek values.
